Pursuing the vision “building bridges between Switzerland and Southeast Asia”, exploreASEAN had the pleasure to announce the participation of two Indonesian students from the Institute of Technology in Bandung (ITB), who came all the way from Indonesia to be part of some of exploreASEAN`s preparatory seminar lectures. “It is amazing to experience the way how other people from different countries perceive and position my country”, Fajar points out, one of the incoming students from Indonesia.

Thanks to the great lecturers from organizations such as Swiss Global enterprise, SECO and Credit Suisse AG, the explorers were able to acquire crucial knowledge about the ASEAN community, its markets, cultural aspects and the relation between Switzerland and some of the ASEAN countries.  Among the special guests, the Minister Counselor Mr. Hendra Halim, who respectable compensated the absence of H.E. Linggawaty Hakim, who had to cancel last minute due to private reasons. Hendra Halim caught the attention of the delegation and closed the first day successfully.

Day two was opened by Jesse Ng, the founder of Bajak Limited, an ASEAN consulting company which was followed by input sessions of Prof. Dr. Zainai, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy  and Dr. Hrabra-Renevey. In the afternoon of the same day the explorers were honored to welcome His Excellency Pham Hai Bang, Ambassador of Vietnam to Switzerland, who held a speech expressing his interest in collaboration with exploreASEAN.

Apart from our business-related activities during the preparatory seminar, the delegations of exploreASEAN also had the chance to experience a special celebration of the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. Not only did we have the chance to listen to the sharing on this meaningful event by our Vietnamese delegation, but we also explored a part of the diverse Vietnamese cuisine in the same afternoon by rolling our own summer rolls.

The preparatory seminar promises many more upcoming insights into the ASEAN region! Stay tuned for the second part of our journey!
