A day off in Hanoi
Today, the delegation had a day off. The sunny weather encouraged all of us to go out and explore the city Hanoi. However, the Sunday in Hanoi was very busy. All shops were open and invited us to buy some souvenirs for the family or for yourself. Additionally, brands like north face and adidas are producing their goods in Vietnam. As a result, there were a lot of opportunities to purchase these brand staff. The price was mostly lower than at home, but we had to watch out of imitations. Differently to Switzerland, the streets are full of very small shops and give the chance to explore new products. In addition, a lot of shops are unique, and some are selling handmade products.
The weather gives also the good occasion for sightseeing. Hanoi offers beautiful places like the Hoan Kiem Lake, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum or the Temple of Literature. At the lake we could sit down and enjoy the warm but not too hot weather.
Most of us were walking by feet because this is the easiest and fastest way to move due to the traffic. Like Indonesia there are a lot of motorbikes and cars on the roads. Rules of driving are not really existing and to hoot is very common. A few courageous delegation members were trying out a trip with motorbikes. They arrived happy and safe again at the hotel.
In the evening, a large group of the delegation went to Millenium (Café des artes). The employees of the restaurant speak French and so we get in touch with the history of Vietnam. Vietnam was a colony of France. We ate a delicious menu with four courses. Happy and with a full belly we went to bed early. Tomorrow, our last week starts and we are excited to learn more about Vietnam and to fly to Ho Chi Minh City in the evening
